Teacher
You will need to read through the process
and rules behind the
Academic Controversy Strategy before you commence this activity with
your students.

Students
This activity is to further develop your Critical and
Creative Thinking Skills.
It is advised that you read through the following procedure all the way to
the end so you have a very good idea of what you are to do.
Read the
Academic Controversy Strategy
1. In groups of 4 students, pair up. You are going to
investigate the pros and cons of cars in the city and the solutions
provided.

One pair will take the pros of three measures that Europe
has taken to reduce cars in the city while the other pair will take the cons
of those measures. You will need to agree initially on those three measures.
2. Read or listen to the following article from
The Conversation 14 April 2022 - the stimulus material.

It might be an idea for the group to take in turns
reading the article - as it is a long one.
3. Each pair is to take notes that support their point
of view - pro or con.
4. Follow the procedure of the Academic Controversy
Strategy as shown above in the graphic.
5. After the procedure of sharing different points of
view, drop your positions and generate a report for the rest of the class.
