1. You have various social media apps on your phone or ipad.
With a group of 3 - 5 students you are to analyse and rate these apps [evaluate them].
What are your criteria?
2. Create a table similiar to the one below making sure that you cover all aspects of this app.

3. Fill in your table with each app you use.
4. Compare with other students in your group. Add to your table if you have forgotten an app. Was there an app that you hadn't heard of but might be interested in having?
5. Average your group ratings for each app and compare it with your own rating.

Look at the problems with each app. Discuss as a group.
7. Are there any ethical problems with the app(s)? List them. Eg. Does the app require you to provide your email address or mobile number? Do you get messages on your mobile after giving up this information?

2. In groups of 3 - 4 students write down at least 3 - 5 issues presented and their degree of caution.

In your group, discuss what you think is happening with this toy and the issues presented.
4. In late 2015, this toy was taken
off the market [although you can still buy her on Internet marketing
platforms - 2025 - Frances].
Was this a good idea to take Hello Barbie off the shelves? Give reasons!

Lessons involved: 3 - 4 with a week or two in-between to allow students to conduct surveys.
Overview:
Students can:
• use measures mean, mode, median & range to analyse data that is
displayed in a frequency table, stem and leaf plot or dot plot
• use spreadsheets to tabulate and graph data.
Students
1. You are to
investigate the data provided about texting within a Year 8 class. The
results are within the
student
handout. You are to calculate the range, mode, median and mean
of the data presented.
2. You
are given an outlier figure that alters the result. You are to discuss
this with the class.
3. As a
class, you are to survey students and the number of text messages they
receive and send each week. You are to present the data.
4. As a
class, you then are to survey a group of Year 8 students about the
number of videos they watch within a week along with the number
of Instagram messages they send or read.
5. You are to calculate the range, mode, median and mean and then discuss as a class the significance of these results.
