Manufacturing & Production: Tree Faller
What's
that tree? A school tree audit
1. Your Principal has to know about the trees on your school site for a WHS inspection. You are to create a tree audit which includes:
2. In groups
of 4 - 5 students, select which task your group is going to do from the
list above. 3. Resources to help you:
Height of Trees
YouTube: How to measure the height
of a tree
4 Ways to
measure the height of a tree: WikiHow
4. Compile your findings into a folder for the school inspection.
1. In this messy and creative activity, you are going to create paper to then create cards for different occasions for your family. It will require patience and a lot of experimenting. 2. You are going to watch this simple video to get the idea of what to do. How to Make Paper (out of
recycled paper)
3. Next you are going to begin
by following the "recipe" from
WikiHow
4. Once you have dried and produced your paper, you need to think about who this paper is going to be gifted to and for what occasion. You are to create a poem or a letter for your special paper. Create your card or letter and show it to your teacher for display and then real gifting (giving it to the person you intended it for).
1. In pairs, you are to
read the following article from
The Conversation 18 April 2017 and using
Voki create an animation about the content that younger students
will be inspired to protect our Australian
2. List all the facts that you both want to use to educate younger students about Australia's ancient trees. 3. Select the character in Voki that you think these younger students would enjoy. 4. Create a script for one of you to read out loud into Voki. Make sure the script is educational. 5. The other partner is to create music or sounds to go with the script. 6. Present your Voki to the class and then if good enough, ask for it to be shown in an assembly.
7.
Reflection.
What did you learn during this project? How well did you work with your partner? Who did most of the work? Why? What did you learn about yourself during this project - your creativity? your knowledge base? your presentation skills? your cooperation with your partner?
1. In groups of 4 - 5 students, you
are to read the following articles
The Conversation 16 April 2025
2. Divide the group up into the following stances: [self select which stance you would like to undertake or flip a coin!]
3. Re-read the articles to gain evidence of your stance. You are to take on this role seriously as if you were responsible for all the farmers, or environmentalists etc. 4. All the stances/roles get together in the classroom and discuss their responses to the big question. Eg. All the farmer 1s form a group to discuss; all the Indigenous Elders get together etc.
4.
Back in your original group and armed with the responses from your role, remain in your role /stance and discuss the following big question: "Should farmers be able to cut down trees on their property regardless......?"
