Rebecca Accountant [Tax]
Description of Job: A typical day involves working on tax returns, helping clients with questions. Experiences: I always knew that I enjoyed subjects like Maths and I always liked counting money (who doesn't?). So by about high school I knew that I would either become a Maths teacher or an Accountant. In the end, the accounting won but I can always change to teaching later. Opportunities: I was lucky to be able to go to university and I was very lucky to get the job I have. I was in the right place at the right time. I must admit that I was not looking for full time work when I ended up with this accounting job. I used an employment agency to help me look for some part time work until I finish University. They thought that I would like this job even though it was full time so I ended up with the job I wanted earlier than I thought thanks to people looking out for me. Education:
Training: I am completing a commerce degree at university. This training will enable me to do many different things like accounting, marketing, finance, management. It has not limited my career choices at all it has expanded them. Now that I am in the workplace most of the training is on the job, with someone helping and supervising. Occasionally I also do other one day courses to keep me up to date with current laws and regulations. Employment: I work for a small firm. We work together as a team. A typical day involves working on tax returns, helping clients with questions and working together with other people to provide the best service for the customer. Development: I am very luckly as my boss believes that future development of skills is always important. I can also do further units at university to further my skills. As I am an accountant I can also do the CPA course which means that I can become recognised by other professionals that I have all the neccessary skills needed to work in my own practice one day.
